How do we talk to boys and men in ways that will engage them and stop gender-based violence? What is being done in the legal world, in schools, with public education campaigns and with perpetrators to understand, challenge and change male attitudes and behaviour on harassment, assault and abuse? Chair James Dornan MSP, Cross-Party Group on Men’s Violence Against Women and Children Panellists Sandy Brindley is the Chief Executive of Rape Crisis Scotland and has been involved in the Rape Crisis movement in Scotland for more than 25 years, supporting and advocating for survivors of sexual violence. In 2018 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Glasgow in recognition of her efforts and achievements that have been heavily influential in driving progress for survivors of rape, sexual assault and abuse in Scotland. Adam Miller is a journalist at The Herald newspaper and host of the Old Firm Facts podcast. In 2021 and 2022, he was involved in the Don't Be That Guy campaign, which aims to tackle male sexual entitlement in Scotland. Graham Goulden is a retired Scottish police officer who also worked with the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit. Graham is now a trainer, consultant and speaker working across the UK and in the US supporting the prevention of violence in communities, sports teams, workplaces and universities. A passionate advocate of the bystander approach Graham also supports policing in the US and in the UK in the delivery of active bystandership/peer intervention training. Professor Nancy Lombard is a Professor in Sociology and Social Policy at Glasgow Caledonian University. Nancy’s research looks at violence, gender and young people. Her findings have generated policy change and investment in gender equality programmes across health, education and the voluntary sector. Her latest research examined women’s lived experiences of the criminal justice system. She is also researching innovative solutions to domestic abuse across nine countries and exploring what survivors think about sentencing.
