The future of Scotland’s arts and culture – where do we go from here?

As highlighted by the Scottish Parliament’s Culture Committee, significant budgetary challenges have become much more acute as a “perfect storm” of economic factors now threatens Scotland’s art and culture scene.  What are the next steps if future generations of performers and audiences are to thrive and what’s the most sustainable arts and culture funding model to ensure longevity of an industry that is world renowned? Chair Clare Adamson MSP, Convener, Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee Panellists Jean Cameron is an internationally respected freelance cultural leader based in Glasgow. She is the Executive Producer of the Edinburgh International Cultural Summit, a role that builds on her track record of delivering significant cultural relations programmes with partners including the Ukrainian Institute, the British Embassy, Rome and the Georgian International Festival of Theatre. She is also the chair of CCA: the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and is a trustee of National Theatre of Scotland. Moira Jeffrey is director of Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) the member-led network which connects and champions Scotland’s contemporary art community that includes art galleries, community organisations, and venues together with individual artists. A trusted voice in the contemporary art community, she is a former family law solicitor with 25 years of experience in the visual arts in Scotland including roles in arts journalism and broadcasting, public funding, and research. Francesca Hegyi OBE is Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Festival. She has worked in culture, the arts and major events for more than 25 years including London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games; and as Executive Director of Hull 2017 UK City of Culture. Since March 2021, she has served as Deputy Chair of the Creative Industries Council.
